Business Licensing in San Francisco

San Francisco requires every person engaging in business within the City to register with the Office of the Treasurer & Tax Collector within 30 days of commencing business. Registration is valid April 1 through March 31. The City offers a "First Year Free" program that automatically waives initial registration fees, license fees, and first-year permit fees for qualifying new businesses or new locations — enrollment is automatic. To qualify, the business or new location must have commenced on or after July 1, 2023, have estimated SF gross receipts of $5,000,000 or less, and operate from a commercial (not home-based) location.
